You don’t want to risk failing the General Knowledge test for your commercial drivers license (CDL) in Iowa. If you don’t answer 40 of the 50 question correct in the 60 minute time-span then you will have to come another day to take the test over again. That’s time consuming and might be costing you money in revenue. The best way to make sure you are ready for the exam is to study the official Iowa Commercial Driver’s License manual and then take these practice tests until you have all the details down cold. The questions are filled with important concepts and even have hints to help you learn. Once you feel you are ready to take the test there are still a few pieces of paperwork you have to get together in order to make the trip to the Iowa DOT a smooth one. They won’t even let you take the test without a certificate from a licensed medical examiner. The point is to prove that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. In order to get one, you have to go to an examiner as listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. These last for two years, unless you have a condition that requires monitoring, like hypertension. Then the examiner may make the certificate last a shorter amount of time, pending your return to the doctor. The other information you will certainly need is a valid driver’s license and proof of permanent residency or citizenship to the US. With all this together with your knowledge of Commercial Driving, you’re all set. Go and get certified. You got this.
