You must meet several requirements to obtain a driver’s license in Mississippi. Importantly, you must pass a vision exam and a computerized (“written”) knowledge test and meet various documentation requirements, including proof of school enrollment, to qualify for a learner’s permit to allow you to practice driving.
The knowledge test has 30 questions based on the official driver’s manual (Mississippi DMV Handbook (MS Driver's Manual) 2024). The passing score is 80%. You are not allowed to use any “cheat sheets” or other aids during the test. If you’re reading impaired, you may use the available headset to listen to a voice reading the questions to you.
Once you obtain a learner’s permit, you may apply for a Class R regular driver’s license after you complete 50 hours of safe driving and either (a) turn 17 or (b) turn 16 and hold the learner’s permit for at least one year. (A driving or road test is no longer required in Mississippi.)
However, if you fail the knowledge test, you may retake it on the next business day. If you fail it after your third attempt, you must wait 30 days before you may try it again.
We’ve always known that failing the knowledge test is a sobering possibility without adequate test preparation. (In 2016, 60% of applicants failed the Mississippi knowledge test on their first try.) Therefore, we provided you with a variety of interactive test preparation tools to help you learn and memorize all the information you need to pass the knowledge test: an audiobook version of the official manual, a comprehensive series of practice tests covering the information in the manual, and an automated assistant that could provide you with hints and explanations to help you answer the practice test questions.
Now it’s time to see if you really are ready to take the official knowledge test!
This Exam Simulator test runs in Exam Mode, resembling official exam conditions. The test consists of 30 questions based on the official manual, just like those on the official Mississippi DPS permit test. The passing score is 80%, just like the official permit test. Unlike our other practice tests, the Exam Simulator test ends prematurely if you fail it (that is, if you miss more than 20% of the questions). There are no hints or other tools to help you answer the test questions. On this test, you’re on your own!
Plus, if you tend to experience test anxiety when taking official tests, then this Exam Simulator, by showing you just what to expect on the official test, may even help alleviate it.
Good luck!
