Montana Motorcycle Manual Online 2024

Unlike other states, Montana’s Motor Vehicle Division doesn’t offer a separate Motorcycle Operators Manual for learners.

However, the state does provide a 42-page Montana Motorcycle Supplement which is an essential resource for novice and experienced riders alike.

Montana Motorcycle Endorsements

The Motorcycle Supplement discusses the legal requirements for operating a motorcycle in the state of Montana. A Motorcycle Endorsement on a valid Montana Driver License is required for the operation of a motorcycle, motor scooter or any other motor-driven cycle on a public roadway or highway in the state. In order to obtain a Motorcycle Endorsement, you must:

Be at least sixteen years of age. Applicants who are fifteen years old must have passed an approved driver’s education course.
Have a valid Montana Driver License.
Successfully complete the motorcycle knowledge and skills test.
Pay the fee of $0.50/year.

Motorcycle Learner License

After passing the knowledge test, you will receive a Motorcycle Learner License. This will allow you to operate your vehicle under immediate supervision of a responsible licensed driver. This Learner License is valid for a year. With this license, you can prepare for the full examination, which consists of the following parts:

Physical aptitude review

Knowledge test

The Knowledge Test

The knowledge test covers material that is in the Montana Motorcycle Supplement. Note that this test is difficult! It’s meant to be a comprehensive exam of all the knowledge required to safely and responsibly operate a motorcycle in traffic. It’s also because there are so many motorcycle-related accidents, many of which involve new and inexperienced riders.
