If you are under 18, you must take a Basic RiderCourse offered by the New Mexico Motorcycle Safety Program in order to be issued either a motorcycle license or an endorsement to your regular license or learner’s permit. In order to complete the course, you will have to pass a 25-question written knowledge test with a score of 80% or better. Satisfactorily completing this course means that you will not have to take the written or road skills test from the New Mexico MVD. The knowledge test is based on the information contained in this manual in sections 1 to 13 and 16, so make sure that you study it carefully, take thorough notes, and review the study questions near the back. Once you feel you’ve studied this and the “Motorcycle” section of the 2024 New Mexico Driver Manual enough, taking our practice tests will help build your confidence and show you which sections you may need to review.
