  • How old should I be before applying for a Wyoming driver’s license?

    In the state of Wyoming, you may apply for a hardship learner’s permit as early as 14 years old. You may apply for a regular learner’s permit at age 15.

  • What documents should I have when I apply for my Wyoming driver’s license?

    When you apply for your Wyoming driver’s license, you should have the following:
    • Proof of ID such as a State issued Birth Certificate or US Passport
    • Proof of Social Security Number
    • Two Proofs of Residency

  • Where do I go to apply for my Wyoming license?

    Go to your Wyoming DOT office to take your permit test.

  • How may I contact a Wyoming DOT office?

    You may contact the DOT with any questions or concerns at 307-777-4800 or you can check them out online.

    Your parent must bring you if you are younger than 18.

    No. A physical isn’t required in order to get a Wyoming learner’s permit.

    You will have your picture taken at the Wyoming DOT office when you get your permit.

    Once you’ve passed your knowledge test, you will be issued your learner’s permit. The next step afterwards will be based on your age.
    • Age 17 or older: You may apply for your license right away.
    • Age 16 or under:
      1. You must hold your license for at least 10 days before being eligible for your next license.
      2. You must get at least 50 hours of behind the wheel training. After that you will receive your intermediate permit.
      3. You must keep the intermediate permit for at least 6 months or until age 17. During this time you must complete a driver’s education course before you can be issued your full license.

To ride the range toward the Grand Tetons and grab some steaks in Jackson Hole, it sure will behoove you to have a license to drive a motor vehicle. Time is ticking with every blast of Old Faithful, so now is an excellent time to start learning and practicing for the big test.
