For this you need a Medical Examiner’s Certificate which you can only get from a medical examiner listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. This certificate lasts for two years, generally, unless the examiner feels you have a condition that needs monitoring, like hypertension or diabetes. Along with this certificate (also known as a DOT card) you will need a valid current driver’s license and proof of citizenship or lawful permanent residency.
