Driving a semi-truck in Massachusetts can be a challenge. You’ll grapple with famously unpredictable weather (which can include dense fog, heavy snowstorms, and Nor’easters) and bustling industrial centers connected by frequently congested two-lane roads.
You must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to drive heavy combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers or semi-trucks. The requirements for this license include passing the General Knowledge test and the Combination Vehicles knowledge test and passing the CDL skills test in a combination vehicle. Then you may legally drive vehicles where the cab is separate from the trailer, which requires special handling skills and knowledge.
So, if your dream is to haul cargo in a Peterbilt across the country, you’ll have to pass the Combination Vehicles knowledge test. This test covers topics like coupling and uncoupling, inspection procedures and how to safely operate combination vehicles.
The official 2025 CDL manual covers everything you need to know about combination vehicles to pass the knowledge test. It contains essential information, and your knowledge of the subject will be evaluated by the written exam, which has a total of 25 questions. To pass, you’ll need a score of 80%.
All questions have multiple answer options, but only one is correct. Unlike the official written exam, there is no time limit on our practice tests. Since you are still in the learning phase, there is no need to rush through the questions. While these tests offer a great way of evaluating your knowledge and scoring your submissions, they can also be used as a learning tool.
After each question, you’ll receive immediate feedback with a detailed explanation of the correct answer. Students use this feature to their advantage by memorizing the correct answer while developing a better understanding of driving combination vehicles.
If you want to have a successful trucking career and be called “king of the road,” you’ll have to master many aspects of commercial driving. Only practice makes perfect, and there’s enough time for you to log thousands of hours behind the wheel of a powerful semi-truck. But the learning process comes first, and it shouldn’t be rushed or skipped. Solidify your understanding of CDL combination vehicles with our detailed Combination test collection, specifically designed to prepare you for the written exam.
