Obtaining your Missouri CDL requires successfully passing the Missouri CDL General Knowledge Exam and then the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test. Our Missouri CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests are designed to cover everything about pre-trip inspections to pass the Missouri CDL General Knowledge Exam. Passing the knowledge exam is a prerequisite for obtaining a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). The CLP is required before you can take the skills test for a CDL. Additionally, if you fail the knowledge exam, you’ll need to wait at least one day for a retest and pay a fee. Our practice tests provide the tools you need to pass the knowledge exam and help you with your hands-on Pre-Trip Inspection test. According to federal regulations 49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13, this inspection is required and is one of three skills tests that must be passed to receive a full CDL (alongside the basic control skills test and road test).
In Missouri’s Pre-trip Inspection Test Procedures, you must be able to physically point to, touch, and name each component during your pre-trip inspection test and explain why it is being inspected, all within a 45-minute time limit. For the Missouri CDL General Knowledge Exam and the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, you’ll need to label and thoroughly check the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. Failure of even one part of the skills test means you must retake the failed parts during the CLP validity period, which in this state is 365 days with no renewals. If the CLP expires, you must restart all skills testing from the beginning. Your examiner must attest that you can determine whether all parts are in good working condition and free of defects.
This practice test is based on the most recent Missouri CDL manual (Missouri CDL Handbook 2025) and contains 20 multiple-choice questions to assess your knowledge of pre-trip inspections. Compared with study guides, our approach includes more effective and detailed explanations after each response, providing immediate feedback and ensuring you pass the official knowledge test on your first attempt.
