In the great state of Nevada, the tourism, gaming, and mining sectors have created a demand for commercial drivers. Interstate 15 is one of the most important highways in the western United States for commercial traffic. It runs from San Diego County, California, through Las Vegas. Then it continues northward through Montana into Alberta, Canada. It is heavily used by trucks carrying goods between Southern California and the Rocky Mountain region. Other important commercial routes include Interstate 80 (trucking between the West Coast and the Midwest) and U.S. Route 95 (truck and bus traffic between San Luis, Arizona and Eastport, Idaho at the Canadian border).
If driving on these or other roads as a licensed truck or bus driver is your goal, you have a number of steps to take and requirements to meet before you can obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). We can help you with one of the most important early steps: passing the official General Knowledge test on commercial driving theory. You must pass this test and meet other requirements to be eligible for a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), which will allow you to practice commercial driving under supervision.
You have likely been advised to study the official Nevada Commercial Driver’s License Manual (Nevada CDL Handbook 2025). The manual does contain all the information on which you’ll be tested. However, not everyone finds it easy to absorb and memorize the material just by reading the manual. If you’re one of those aspiring drivers who would like additional help, we have just the thing.
This free Nevada CDL permit practice test, one of several we offer, will assess your knowledge of commercial driving theory. It’s based on the official CDL manual, just like the official knowledge test, and is up to date as of March, 2025. The 50 multiple-choice questions on this practice test will assess your understanding of such topics as driving maneuvers, cargo management, emergency preparedness, and vehicle components. The practice test differs from the official knowledge test primarily in the extra tools it gives you to help you learn, including an automated assistant that can offer you a hint if you get stuck and an explanation if you still miss a question. Plus, the practice test has no time limit. Take all the time you need to learn the material. If you’re not sure how to answer a question, put it aside momentarily while you try to look up the correct answer in the CDL manual or on the internet. You’ll learn far more by researching the correct answer to the question than by blindly guessing it.
