Becoming a commercial driver in New Hampshire takes time and effort, but you’ll be rewarded with a fulfilling career. As you begin your learning phase, you should study the various aspects of commercial driving theory described in the official New Hampshire CDL driver’s guide (New Hampshire CDL Handbook 2025). Take as long as you need to master this subject and avoid rushing. Whether you intend to transport heavy cargo or drive school buses, your job involves a lot of responsibility. That is why the DMV is strict about the licensing process and requires all applicants to pass a 50-question CDL permit exam. Additionally, you must get Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a registered provider, pass a vision exam, provide the necessary documents, pay the application fees, and pass the CDL skills tests after holding a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for 14 days. Depending on the endorsements you intend to obtain for your CDL, you may also have to pass their respective knowledge tests.
