The Ohio BMV can get busy so you’ll want to get there early and make sure you have everything ready for your commercial driver’s license application and exam. The General Knowledge exam is 50 multiple-choice questions that have to be answered in under an hour. Get more than 10 wrong and you fail and have to wait in the long line at the BMV all over again on another day. Have another day to spare? Didn’t think so. The official Ohio Commercial Driver’s Manual is what you need to make sure that you have all the knowledge at your fingertips. The BMV requires you show a Medical Examiner’s Certificate that has been obtained from a licensed medical examiner as listed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. This will demonstrate that you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle in Ohio. After that, you will also need to bring a valid current driver’s license and proof of citizenship or permanent legal residency status.
