If you’ve already obtained your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you are likely already familiar with transporting cargo through Oregon’s unique terrain. Perhaps you’ve experienced the winding roads of the Cascade Mountain Range and coastal mountains and the winds and dust storms of the high desert areas, but you’ve also witnessed breathtaking sights like the Columbia River Gorge and urban living in Salem, Eugene, and Portland. Adding the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement to your CDL is a lucrative way to increase your job opportunities and may result in higher pay, as organizations are often willing to pay more for the valuable skills of an endorsement holder!

The Hazmat endorsement enables drivers to transport materials classified as hazardous by the U.S. government. In the Beaver State, hazardous materials transported include gasoline, biodiesel, industrial chemicals, and agricultural chemicals like pesticides. Some key organizations in Oregon, such as Chevron Corporation in Portland (petroleum products distribution), Schnitzer Steel Industries also in Portland (scrap metal processing and chemical transport), and Intel in Hillsboro (uses industrial chemicals in its manufacturing of semiconductors) rely on drivers with this endorsement.

Several steps exist to ensure proper training of this select group of drivers. The process starts with the fingerprinting and background check mandated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Results from TSA can take weeks, so you’ll want to study and practice in the meantime for the second step: the DMV knowledge test. This test covers federal regulations, substance handling, packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations for hazardous materials. With a score of 80% on Oregon’s 30-question knowledge test, you can pass the test and move closer to unlocking new opportunities (Oregon CDL Handbook 2025).

Our online Oregon DMV Hazmat Endorsement practice tests are designed to take the overwhelming aspects of the study process out of the picture. We have designed them to avoid any unnecessary information and streamlined the content to resemble what you will face on the official DMV test. Additionally, you will receive immediate feedback on each response so you learn as you go without waiting until the end for corrections. Ready to roll? Once you receive your TSA results and feel prepared, you’ll visit the DMV with the necessary documents, pay the fees, pass the test, and start your next career level.
