Looking to add the Double and Triple Trailers endorsement to your Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)? Smart idea! This endorsement significantly expands your earning potential by permitting you to haul more diverse loads. And, whether driving through the Appalachian Mountains, or the farmland and natural resource areas of its state plateaus, you’ll see a good mix of terrain in Pennsylvania. To achieve this endorsement, you’ll need to pass a 20-question multiple-choice knowledge test with a score of 80% (16 correct answers). That’s it! For this addition to your CDL, a skills test (the hardest part) isn’t needed. Once you pass this knowledge test, you’ll receive the “T” endorsement on your CDL, authorizing you to pull two or three trailers (where allowed) (Pennsylvania CDL Handbook 2025).

While the minimum age requirement to travel across state lines is federally mandated to be 21, in the Keystone State, you need only be 18 years of age to add this certification to your CDL. So, there is some instant intrastate opportunity available to younger drivers. Even with a Double/Triple Trailers endorsement, triple trailers are not allowed in Pennsylvania. The good news is that double trailers are often used throughout Pennsylvania for the transport of steel and industrial products (Pittsburgh is a major hub), coal and natural gas in the western part of the state, agricultural products like mushrooms, dairy, poultry, and apples, consumer goods and electronics, and chemicals and pharmaceuticals (especially from the Philadelphia area). I know! This sounds incredible. But how can you best prepare for the test?

Staying focused can be tough due to the enormously daunting amount of information found online on this subject, but our online Pennsylvania CDL Double/Triple Trailers practice test methodically streamlines this experience. Up to date as of January 2025, the test features 20 multiple-choice questions reflecting what you will see at the DOT on your test day! Plus, with real-time feedback on each answer, you learn as you go versus the usual (and less effective) end-of-test corrections faced elsewhere.

You only need to pass the official knowledge test. After practicing with our free tests and building your confidence, it will be time to apply at the DOT. Just take your documents, pay the fee, pass the test, and restart your transport career on a whole new and improved level!
