Want your commercial driver’s license in Pennsylvania? The General Knowledge Exam given by the Department of Transportation (DOT) in Pennsylvania is 50 tricky multiple-choice questions long. You have only one hour and if you get less than an 80% (that’s 40 questions right) you fail the test. Failure means you have to come back to take the test another day — you can’t take it more than once in a 24 hour period. That’s rough if you already were taking time off of work on a weekday to head into the office for the test. It’s important not to waste time. You want to pass on the first shot. For this, a green card, social security card, or birth certificate will work. Then lastly you’ll want to make sure you have a standard current valid driver’s license. With all the paperwork set, and after you’ve prepared properly for the exam, you should be able to sweep in and out of the DOT with a Commercial Driver’s License ready to go.
