At the Tennessee DMV, if you’re hoping to get a commercial driver’s license, you have to take a 50 question general knowledge exam. The questions are not just common sense, and you’ll want to get a copy of the official Tennessee Commercial Driver’s Manual, if you are going to have a chance to pass. You only have an hour to answer all the questions and if you miss more than 10 that is a failing grade (under 80%) and you’ll have to come back another day. In addition, they require that you have proof of permanent legal residency or US citizenship. The simplest documents that fulfill this requirement are your social security card, birth certificate, or green card. In addition, they’ll want to see a valid current driver’s license.
