Free VA CDL Double/Triple Trailers Practice Test 2025

    • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
    • Based on 2025 VA commercial driver's license manual
    • Updated for April 2025

Want to pull doubles in Virginia? (The state does not allow triple trailers.) You must hold a Class A CDL and obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your CDL. Where legal and practical, doubles are often preferred (especially in the logistics sector) for their increased efficiency. The limited number of drivers with the T endorsement and their specialized training place them in high demand.

In Virginia, as in much of the rest of the nation, the logistics and retail sectors make heavy use of multiple trailers for efficient transport (although other sectors often use doubles, too). Double-trailer trucks transport containers from the Port of Virginia to distribution centers inland. Railroads like CSX and Norfolk Southern offer intermodal operations, using double trailers to haul goods to or from rail. Walmart uses double trailers to supply stores from its distribution centers. Amazon Fulfillment Centers use double trailers for parcel distribution.

To obtain the Double/Triple Endorsement on your CDL, you must pass the official Double/Triple knowledge test. Topics covered on the test include safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, emergency situations, pre-trip inspections, rollovers, and trailer sway. (No special skills test is required for this endorsement.)

This knowledge test is based on the official Virginia CDL manual (Virginia CDL Handbook 2025), especially Chapter 7: Doubles and Triples. Have you had any trouble absorbing or memorizing the information in this manual? We can help ensure you pass the Double/Triple knowledge test on your first try.

This Virginia Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Test, the first of five we offer, is based on the official CDL manual, just like the official Double/Triple knowledge test. It’s up to date as of April 2025. The 20 multiple-choice questions and answers on this practice test deal with air lines, converter dollies, coupling, emergency situations, following distance, and rearward amplification.

Our AI Assistant can help you figure out the answer to any practice question. You can ask it to rephrase the question or give you a hint. You can also ask your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation.

This practice test isn’t timed; take all the time you need to learn and master the material covered by this practice test. Disappointed with your final score? You can retake this practice test as often as you wish. The order of the questions will be randomized.
