Free WV CDL Double/Triple Trailers Practice Test 2025

    • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
    • Based on 2025 WV commercial driver's license manual
    • Updated for April 2025

To be legally authorized to pull multiple trailers in West Virginia, you must meet a set of requirements. You must obtain a Class A CDL to drive combination vehicles. To do this, you must pass the General Knowledge test and the Combination knowledge test. You should also pass the Air Brakes knowledge test because nearly all heavy double-trailer and triple-trailer trucks have air brakes. You must also pass a skills test in a combination vehicle with air brakes.

To drive combination vehicles with double trailers, you must also obtain a Double/Triple (T) endorsement on your Class A CDL. (Triple trailers are prohibited in West Virginia.) To get this endorsement, you must pass the Double/Triple knowledge test. This test covers such topics as safe handling, air brakes on doubles and triples, coupling and uncoupling, emergency situations, and state and federal regulations on doubles and triples. (You don’t have to pass any special skills test for this endorsement.)

All these official knowledge tests are based on the official West Virginia CDL manual (West Virginia CDL Handbook 2025). The Double/Triple knowledge test is based on Chapter 7: Doubles and Triples.

We offer tools to complement the official manual with intensive training and ensure you pass the Double/Triple knowledge test on your first try. This practice test is the first of our five West Virginia Doubles and Triples Endorsement Practice Tests. It’s up to date as of April 2025 and based on the official CDL manual, just like the official Double/Triple knowledge test. The 20 multiple-choice questions and answers on this practice test address 1air lines, converter dollies, coupling, following distance, rearward amplification, and rollovers.

If you get stuck on a question, you can ask our AI Assistant to rephrase the question, give you a hint, or answer any of your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the question, the AI assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation.

Demand for drivers qualified to pull doubles has been high. In much of the country, including West Virginia, the logistics and retail sectors make heavy use of double-trailer vehicles for their increased efficiency. In West Virginia, FedEx Freight and TForce Freight use doubles, and so does Old Dominion Freight Line for LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) shipments. Food Lion, Kroger, and Walmart use doubles to supply stores.

Core Natural Resources (formed by the 2024 merger of CONSOL Energy and Arch Resources) uses double coal trailers to transport raw coal. Weyerhaeuser and Smurfit WestRock use double-flatbed trucks to transport timber.
