When looking to earn money driving a commercial vehicle in Wisconsin, you’ll need to follow some specific steps to get your Commercial Driver’s License. First you’ll need to take care of the documentation. The Wisconsin DMV requires that you provide a Medical Examiner’s Certificate that proves you are physically qualified to drive a commercial vehicle. Also known as a DOT Card, the certificate can’t be picked up from just any medical professional, you have to get it from a licensed medical examiner that is listed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. Then, you also need to bring a current valid driver’s license and proof of US citizenship or permanent legal residency. The general knowledge test is a 50 question multiple choice exam. While you may think that the hour they give you is plenty of time for a test like that, it can be tricky and if you get over 10 wrong then you fail the exam. Failure means you have to come back to the DMV another day as you can’t take the test more than once in one day. That’s a serious hassle and one you can avoid by studying for the test first.
