The written test to receive a permit or license in Arizona consists of 30 multiple-choice questions based on the 2024 Arizona Driver License Manual. You’ll need to answer 80% of the questions correctly to pass, or 24 questions. For minors who are 15 ½ years of age or older, you may take the written knowledge test to get your driver’s permit, which you must hold for at least six months before taking a driving test and receiving a graduated driver license. Once you receive your permit, you’ll need to complete an MVD-approved driver education program or have a documented 30 hours of behind-the-wheel experience, 10 of which must be at night. Taking the written knowledge test costs $7, which includes three attempts to pass within a 12-month period; it is offered at your local MVD office on a touchscreen computer, unless you require an audio version. Use this 40-question MVD practice test to help you study and ensure you pass the Arizona knowledge test on your first try.
