The knowledge test for a learner’s permit and license in Massachusetts is comprised of 25 multiple-choice questions offered on an automated testing system at your local RMV. You’ll need to correctly answer at least 18 of the questions in under 25 minutes. Information for questions on your test will be pulled from the 2024 Massachusetts Driver’s Manual and will be on topics such as traffic laws, road signage, license requirements, and license restriction. Once you have your permit, you must hold it for six months while you complete 40 hours of supervised driving. If you’re a minor, you will also need to take a driver’s education course. At the RMV, you’ll be required to take a vision test and provide proof of identity and state residency, as well as turn in a completed permit application that must be signed by a parent if you’re under 18. The test will be $30 each time you attempt the knowledge exam. This RMV practice test is set to Exam Mode; it will simulate what your real test will be like, as hints and answers will be disabled and the test will end early if you miss too many questions to pass.
