Potential drivers in Minnesota must participate in the Graduated License Program if they are between 15 and 18. Applying for a learner’s permit requires that you pass a written knowledge test of 40 multiple-choice questions based on the 2024 Minnesota Driver’s Manual. To succeed on the test, you’ll need to answer at least 32 of the 40 questions correctly at one of the driver exam stations at the DVS. To get your permit as a minor, you’ll need to show that you’ve completed a classroom driver’s education course, enrolled in a behind-the-wheel driving course, pass your knowledge and vision tests, provide the proper identification, and have parental consent. There is no charge to take either your written test for your permit or your driving test for your provisional license, unless you fail either test more than two times. Your third and subsequent attempts to pass your test will cost a $10 fee for the written test, and $20 fee for the driving test. This DVS practice test will help you pass on your first time.
