Looking to earn a Wyoming Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and begin a career in the field? First, you must obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) by passing the CDL General Knowledge Exam. Failing this exam means waiting at least one day before retesting and paying an additional fee. Once you pass, you must hold the CLP for a minimum of 14 days before taking the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test (and the other parts of the skills test). According to federal regulations (49 CFR § 392.7 and 49 CFR § 396.13), the pre-trip inspection test is one of three required CDL skills tests, along with the basic control skills test and road test. Our Wyoming CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Practice Tests thoroughly cover everything you need to pass the pre-trip sections of the Wyoming CDL General Knowledge Exam on your first attempt.
In Wyoming, the pre-trip inspection test is randomized, meaning you must be prepared to complete one of each possible inspection, regardless of the vehicle class. Additionally, possession of a firearm in the vehicle during the skills test results in automatic disqualification, which is unusual compared with other states. In Wyoming’s Pre-trip Inspection Test procedures, you must be able to perform thorough vehicle checks, including pointing to, touching, and naming each component during your pre-trip inspection test and explaining why it is being inspected. You must also declare whether it is in good operational condition, and your examiner must attest to your accuracy. For the CDL General Knowledge Exam and the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection Test, you’ll need to label and thoroughly check the vehicle’s engine compartment, cab controls, lights, tires, brakes, suspension, and cargo securement. Failing any part of the skills test requires retaking the failed section within the CLP validity period (180 days, with one allowed renewal). If the CLP has expired, you must restart all skills testing.
This practice test is based on the most recent Wyoming CDL manual (Wyoming CDL Handbook 2025) and contains 20 multiple-choice questions to assess your knowledge of pre-trip inspections. Compared with commonly used study guides, our approach includes more effective and detailed explanations after each response, ensuring you pass the official knowledge test on your first attempt.
