To obtain a driver’s license in Alaska, teen applicants must complete the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program. This process begins by obtaining a learner’s permit, available for teens aged 14 or older. You must pass a written knowledge test and a vision test. Once you get a learner’s permit, you can practice driving under the supervision of a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old and has held a valid driver’s license for at least one year.
You can proceed to a provisional license once you have turned 16, have held a learner’s permit for 6 months, and have completed 40 hours (including 10 at night) of supervised driving. To obtain a provisional license, you must pass a road test where an examiner will evaluate your driving skills. After holding a provisional license for at least 6 months and turning 18 (17 with a completed provisional period), you can obtain a full driver’s license with no restrictions. Adults aged 18 or older can apply for a full driver’s license. They must pass a vision test, a written knowledge test, and a road skills exam.

All 20 questions have multiple answer choices, but only one is correct. They are based on the official State of Alaska Driver Manual, which you should read at least once. This resource describes the various aspects of driving theory in detail, including traffic signs, rules of the road, and safe driving practices. Use the official manual alongside this practice test to boost your learning potential and master this subject efficiently over the following weeks. Whether you’re from Fairbanks or Anchorage, becoming a safe and responsible driver starts with a solid foundation of driving knowledge.
