If you’re a resident of Alaska, you know how big the state truly is. With an area of 663,268 square miles, Alaska is by far the largest US state. It’s larger than Texas, California, and Montana (the next three largest states) combined! If Alaska were an independent country, it would be the 18th largest country on earth. If you want to be able to drive through some of this vast territory, you’ll need a driver’s license.
To obtain a driver’s license, you must pass three official tests: a vision test, a written knowledge test, and a road test, and meet some other requirements as well. If you’re under 18, you must obtain an instruction permit to practice driving under supervision before you may take the road test. Passing the vision and written knowledge tests are also crucial requirements for obtaining an instruction permit.
The Alaska DMV written test consists of 20 questions based on the official driver’s manual (Alaska DMV Handbook (AK Driver's Manual) 2025). The questions cover traffic laws, safe driving practices, and road sign recognition. The passing score is 80%.
This is our second Alaska Permit Practice Test. Like our first permit practice test, it was created to help aspiring drivers like you pass the DMV written test on their first attempt. It’s a multiple-choice test. Each question comes with several answer options. You must choose the best or most complete answer. Like the official written test, this practice test is up to date as of March 2025 and based on the official Alaska driver’s manual.
Some topics addressed on this second Alaska Permit Practice Test are aggressive driving, freeway driving, passing and being passed, pavement markings, right-of-way rules, road signs, roundabouts, and turns.
Our AI Assistant can help you with any practice question. You can ask it to rephrase the question, supply a hint, or answer your own questions about driving. The Progress Bar will keep track of your score as you proceed through the test. When you answer a question correctly, the question will turn green. If you miss the question, it will turn red, and the AI Assistant will provide you with the correct answer and an explanation.
We also offer our own Alaska Permit Test Study Guide to help you avoid any unexpected slip-ups on the day of your written knowledge test. It covers how to prepare your mind and body for the test, what documents to take with you, what fees you may have to pay, and which test questions are most often missed.
