- Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
- Based on official Kentucky Driver's manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for July 2025
Becoming a licensed driver in Kentucky takes time and effort, but the licensing process is essential for building your knowledge and improving your driving skills. Aspiring drivers may apply for an instruction permit when they turn 16. They must pass a vision screening and a 40-question knowledge exam.
What happens next depends on their ages. Before proceeding to an intermediate license, aspiring drivers under 18 must hold the learner’s permit for at least 180 days, complete 60 hours of supervised driving (including 10 at night), and pass a road test. Once issued an intermediate license, they may drive unsupervised (subject to certain restrictions), and they must complete an approved driver training program unless they turn 18 first.
In contrast, aspiring drivers at least 18 years of age are not required to complete 60 hours of supervised driving or an approved driver training program. Once they pass the road test, they will be issued a full, unrestricted driver’s license. Furthermore, for drivers at least 21 years of age, the required minimum holding period for the permit is just 30 days.
We’ll help you pass the official written knowledge exam by providing you with an intuitive tool. Our Kentucky Driver’s Handbook Practice Test can help you master driving theory through repetition. It consists of 20 multiple-choice questions based on the official Kentucky Driver Manual (Kentucky DMV Handbook (KY Driver's Manual) 2025). You get unlimited attempts to train as often as you want. With nonstop access, there’s no limit to your learning potential.
Making mistakes is normal, especially during your first few practice sessions. We will point them out as soon as they occur, so you won’t have to wait until the test ends to know what went wrong. Pay attention to the detailed explanation and use it to understand the reasoning behind the correct answer. Note this feedback in a notebook or notebook app to revisit the material during future training sessions.
Several keyboard shortcuts are available for you to use anytime during an active practice session. The “Shift + ?” key combination displays a complete list of commands you can use for more flexibility during your training sessions. This practice test is available online and can be accessed directly in the browser. All you need is a compatible device and a stable internet connection. You can train with this tool on your lunch break, while waiting for an appointment, while traveling, or at home during an extended study session.
