In Missouri, you must meet a series of requirements to obtain a driver’s license. Importantly, you must pass a visual screening, a written test on traffic laws and rules for safe driving, and a road sign test on recognizing and interpreting road signs and signals. If you’re under 18 or have never driven before, passing these three tests is also crucial to obtaining an instruction permit. A permit will allow you to practice driving under supervision.
The knowledge test has 25 multiple-choice questions based on the official driver’s manual (Missouri DOR Handbook (MO Driver's Manual) 2025). The passing score is 80%. If you fail the test, you can take it again on the next business day without paying an additional fee.
Are you thinking, “This will be easy. I’ll make sure to read the manual a couple of times”? Think again! In 2020 – 2023, about 61% – more than half – of aspiring drivers failed the Missouri written test on their first try. Therefore, we’ve provided you with a suite of interactive test preparation tools to help you learn and memorize all the information you need to pass the knowledge test. Our premier tool is a series of practice tests that are based on the official manual, up to date as of January 2025, and accompanied by our AI-based assistant. It can give you hints and explanations to help you learn how to answer the test questions correctly.
Do official tests tend to give you test anxiety? If so, we have one more test for you: our special Exam Simulator test.
This Exam Simulator runs in Simulated Exam Mode, resembling official exam conditions. The test questions are based on the official manual, just like those on the official DOR written test. The passing score is 80%, just like the official written test. Unlike our other practice tests, the Exam Simulator test ends immediately if you fail it (i.e., you miss more than 20% of the questions). Our automated assistant is unavailable for this test, so there are no hints or explanations to help you answer the test questions. Show that you can pass this test without any assistance, just as you’ll have to do on the official written test.
By showing you what taking the official written test will be like, the Exam Simulator will help reduce your fear of the unknown and build your confidence that you can ace that test on your first try.
Good luck!
