In New Mexico, aspiring drivers must follow the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, which comprises three stages: an instruction permit, a provisional license, and a full unrestricted license. To get an instruction permit, you must pass a 25-question written knowledge test and meet several other requirements. The official New Mexico Driver’s Manual (New Mexico MVD Handbook (NM Driver's Manual) 2025) describes the various aspects of driving theory in detail, including safe driving practices, sharing the road, emergencies, and collision avoidance. New Mexico’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) recommends that every aspiring driver read this manual at least once.
To make studying easier and more effective, you can practice with our New Mexico MVD Written Test Study Guide practice test. This intuitive tool can help you master driving theory through repetition. It is up to date as of June 2025, and you have nonstop access to train whenever you want. Each question comes with a detailed explanation provided immediately after you select an answer. With the help of this feature, you won’t have to wait until the test ends to know what went wrong. Additionally, the questions you get wrong will be automatically added to your personal Challenge Bank™. This section includes further explanations that help you learn from your mistakes. Questions in the Challenge Bank will remain there until you answer them correctly.
We believe that beginners unfamiliar with driving theory should ignore their score during their first few attempts. However, you can always interrupt a low-performing practice session and begin a new one immediately. Use the “Restart test” button to wipe your current progress and get a fresh start.
Your driving skills can only be improved gradually. As you begin your learning phase, you should not expect overnight results. Dedicate a few days to studying the basic aspects from the driver’s manual and several more weeks to mastering this subject with the help of our New Mexico MVD Written Test Study Guide practice test.
