Ohio BMV Fines and Limits Permit Practice Test 2024

  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
  • Based on official Ohio Driver's manual
  • Updated for November 2024

You’ve been learning the rules of the road and other traffic laws to pass the BMV knowledge test and obtain a Temporary Instruction Permit Identification Card (TIPIC). You may have taken some of our other practice tests to reinforce your new knowledge. But now, we have something a little different for you.

This free Ohio Fines and Limits permit practice test is mostly about the official penalties you may face if you break some of those rules. These practice questions are among the toughest you may get on your instruction permit test. They also show that breaking the traffic laws can have serious consequences.

This practice test is up to date as of November 2024. The 40 questions on this practice test are based on Ohio’s official driver’s manual (Ohio BMV Handbook (OH Driver's Manual) 2024) and the Ohio Revised Code.

The questions and answers on this practice test address issues like these: What is the fine for driving without wearing a safety belt? How about if an adult front-seat passenger isn’t wearing a safety belt? If a driver under 18 is found guilty of using a hand-held cell phone while driving, what fines and other penalties will that driver face? (Try to memorize all these fines for your instruction permit test.) If you are found to be legally intoxicated during a traffic stop, for how long will your license be suspended? If you refuse chemical testing for alcohol during a traffic stop, for how long will your license be suspended, and what other penalties will you face? If you leave the scene of an accident without stopping, how many points will be added to your driving record? If you are found guilty of driving even though your license is suspended, what penalties will you face?

As with all the permit practice tests we offer, each question on the Ohio Fines and Limits permit practice test comes with an optional hint and an explanation of the correct answer, courtesy of our automated assistant.

In Ohio in 2023, there were 252,166 total traffic crashes, of which 1,150 proved fatal. 9,143 (3.6 percent) of those total crashes involved distracted driving (mostly the use of hand-held electronic devices). 49,767 (19.7 percent) of those total crashes involved unbelted vehicle occupants. 9,627 (3.8 percent) of those total traffic crashes involved alcohol impairment.

Violating the traffic laws can get you into serious trouble. Don’t become another statistic.

Good luck with your permit test, and stay safe!
