In 2020, 7.34 percent of Rhode Island’s drivers had at least one speeding ticket on their driving record. In the state, an average of 3,000 drivers have been arrested each year for driving under the influence (DUI). Many had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) way over the legal limit. In 2022, there were 52 traffic deaths in the state. Alcohol impairment was a factor in about 42 percent of them. Speeding was a factor in about 48 percent of them.
