to help aspiring drivers like you pass the DMV knowledge test. Like the official knowledge test, these practice tests are also based on the official South Carolina driver’s manual (South Carolina DMV Handbook (SC Driver's Manual) 2025), and the passing score is also 80%. All practice questions are multiple choice. You must choose the best or most complete answer for each question.
This fourth permit practice test includes questions on freeways, hand signals, passing, pavement markings, right-of-way rules, road signs, and traffic signals.
Watch the Progress Bar to keep track of your score thus far. When you get a question right, the question number will turn green. If you miss a question, the question number will turn red. As you take this practice test, our AI Assistant will be there for you. If you get stuck on a question, ask the AI Assistant to elaborate or give you a hint. You can also ask it your own questions about driving. If you still miss the question, the AI assistant will provide you with the correct answer and an explanation.
Regardless of your age, if you’ve never driven before, you must obtain an instruction permit and hold it for at least 180 days before you can apply for a driver’s license. Your permit will allow you to practice driving under supervision. The requirements for obtaining an instruction permit include being at least 15 years old, passing a vision test, and passing an official knowledge test on driving theory. You may take the knowledge test at any SCDMV branch or an SCDMV-authorized driving school that offers it. (An online option is not available.) If you’re under 18, you must also obtain consent from a parent or guardian.
Looking for a PDF list of the exact questions (with answers) you’ll encounter on your knowledge test? Unfortunately, we don’t know of a legitimate way to make one. To create a knowledge test, the DMV draws questions randomly from a giant database of available questions, so it’s impossible to predict the specific questions they’ll draw for you. However, our practice test questions have proven pretty similar to the official knowledge test questions. In addition, we have two PDF “cheat sheets” (not for actual cheating, though!) for you: “The Top 100 Most Common US DMV Questions” and “The 121 Most Common US Road Signs Questions.” You will probably encounter some of these questions on your written test. Each “cheat sheet” includes the correct answer for each question listed.
