- Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
- Based on official Virginia Driver's manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for June 2025
Thinking about getting a job and commuting to work by car? Some examples are taking I-66, I-95, or the Capital Beltway to government contracting or consulting work in northern Virginia; I-64, I-264, or U.S. Route 13 to defense or shipbuilding work in Hampton Roads; I-95, I-64, or State Route 288 to healthcare or finance in Richmond; and I-81 or U.S. Route 220 to healthcare or manufacturing in Roanoke. However, to commute by car anywhere, you must have a driver’s license.
In Virginia, all new drivers, regardless of age, must obtain a learner’s permit to practice driving under supervision before they may apply for a driver’s license. You must be at least 15½ years old to get a permit. One crucial requirement for a learner’s permit is to pass two official tests: a vision test and a knowledge test on traffic signs, Virginia motor vehicle laws, and safe driving techniques. Could you use some help studying for the knowledge test? Great! That’s what we’re here for!
Here is our fourth Virginia Permit Practice Test. We designed it to help aspiring drivers like you pass the DMV knowledge test. Like the official knowledge test, this practice test is based on the official Virginia driver’s manual (Virginia DMV Handbook (VA Driver's Manual) 2025).
Carefully read each practice question and its answer choices. Select the best or most complete answer. If you’re unsure of the correct answer, ask our AI Assistant to give you a hint or discuss the question in more depth. You can also ask it your own questions about driving. The Progress Bar will keep track of your score. If you answer the question correctly, it will turn green in the Progress Bar. If you still miss the practice question, it will turn red, and the AI Assistant will give you the correct answer and an explanation.
You probably wish you had a PDF list of the exact Virginia questions and answers you’ll encounter on your knowledge test. Unfortunately, we can’t legitimately write one. To create a knowledge test, the DMV randomly draws test questions from an extensive list of available questions. Only they know which questions they’re including on your knowledge test.
However, our practice questions have proven similar to the official questions that we know of. Plus, we do have two downloadable PDF “cheat sheets” (not for actual cheating, though!): “The Top 100 Most Common US DMV Questions” and “The 121 Most Common US Road Signs Questions.” These are the questions most likely to appear on your knowledge test. Each question listed comes with the correct answer. Try to study and memorize as many of these as you can.
