Dreaming of driving to Vail or Aspen for some skiing? Or driving to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre to see your favorite band perform while you take in the vistas all around? Or seeing the Rocky Mountains National Park via Trail Ridge Road? Whatever your fancy, if you want to drive yourself there, you must have a driver’s license.
You must pass three tests to qualify for a driver’s license: a vision test, a driving knowledge test, and a driving skills (road) test. The knowledge and vision tests are also the two tests required for an instruction (learner’s) permit. If you’re under 18 or have never driven before, you must obtain an instruction permit to allow you to practice driving under adult supervision.
The knowledge test has 25 multiple-choice questions covering road signs and signals, driving under the influence, driving rules, safety rules, and legal items. All questions are based on the official driver’s manual (Colorado DMV Handbook (CO Driver's Manual) 2025). The passing score is 80%.
Perhaps you’re sure that all you have to do to pass the knowledge test is read the official driver’s manual a couple of times. Many other aspiring drivers learned the hard way that wasn’t true. In 2020 – 2023, 39.8% of aspiring drivers failed the Colorado knowledge test on their first try. Therefore, we’ve provided you with interactive test preparation tools, including a graduated series of practice tests also based on the official driver’s manual. Each practice test is accompanied by our AI-based assistant, which can give you hints and explanations to help you answer the test questions and speed up your learning process.
Now we have one more step for you: take our Exam Simulator test.
This Exam Simulator runs in Simulated Exam Mode, resembling official exam conditions. The test consists of 25 questions based on the official manual, just like those on the official DMV knowledge test. The passing score is 80%, just like the official knowledge test. Our AI assistant is unavailable for this test, so there are no hints or explanations to help you. On this test, you’re on your own, just like on the official knowledge test.
By giving you a realistic exam experience now, you’ll learn what to expect on the official knowledge test. This will reduce the chance of an unpleasant surprise on the official knowledge test, relieve any anxiety about the knowledge test, and build your confidence that you can easily ace the official test on your first try.
Good luck!
