Colorado instruction permits are attainable by taking a DMV written test based on the 2024 Colorado Driver Handbook. The test will consist of 25 multiple-choice questions about safe driving techniques, road signs, and driving under the influence; you’ll need to get 20 of the questions right to pass. For minors looking to get their driver’s license in Colorado, you will be required to hold the instruction permit first for at least a year. If you’re under 16, you will be required to take an additional drive education course based on age. To get your permit, you’ll need to go to your local DMV to take your written knowledge test and also pass an eye exam. The permit fee is $16.80, with an $11.15 retest fee if you need to retake the written exam. A parent or guardian must provide written parental consent for those under 18. Your test can be taken in English or Spanish, and you may be able to take the exam at a third-party driving school. Our CO DMV practice test is a helpful tool to get ready for the real test!
