The written knowledge test for Indiana is available to those individuals starting the graduated driver’s license process who are at least 15 years of age. The written test is comprised of 34 questions focusing on road rules and 16 questions on road signs, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions in total. To pass the exam and receive your learner’s permit, you’ll need to score an 84% overall, but must answer 28 of the 34 rules questions and 14 of the 16 signage questions correctly. In addition to your written exam, you’ll need to pass a vision test, pay a $9 fee for your permit, and bring proof of identity, social security number, and state residence. If you’re a minor, you’ll also need a parent or guardian to sign a financial responsibility agreement. 15-year-olds who are testing for their learner’s permit must show that they have enrolled in or completed a driver’s education course, while for those over 15, the education course is not required. Use this BMV practice test to help you study along with the 2024 Indiana Driver’s Manual, so you can pass your knowledge test on the first attempt.
