In Arizona, if you’re under 18, you must obtain an instruction (learner’s) permit before taking the road test for a driver’s license. You must be at least 15½ years of age to be eligible for a permit. One key requirement for an instruction permit is to pass two MVD tests: a visual screening and a written (knowledge) test on driving theory. If you’re at least 18 years old, you must pass these tests to get a license, but an instruction permit is optional if you need more supervised driving practice before your road test.
The MVD written test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions based on the official Driver License Manual (Arizona DMV Handbook (AZ Driver's Manual) 2025). You’ll need to answer 80% of the questions correctly to pass.
This is our fourth Arizona Permit Practice Test. Like our first three permit practice tests, we created it to help aspiring drivers like you pass the Arizona written test. All our Arizona permit practice tests are multiple choice. Each question comes with several answer options. You must choose the best or most complete answer. Like the official written test, these practice tests are based on the official Arizona driver’s manual, and their passing score is 80%.
This fourth Arizona Permit Practice Test includes questions on freeway driving, passing and being passed, night driving, pavement markings, road signs, safety belts, skid prevention and recovery, and traffic signals. Our AI assistant can help you with any practice question. It can rephrase the question, supply a hint, or answer your own questions about driving. If you still miss the question, the AI assistant will immediately tell you and explain the correct answer.
Looking for a PDF list of the exact questions (with answers) you’ll encounter on your knowledge (written) test? Sorry, we can’t help you there. To assemble the questions for a test, the MVD draws questions randomly from an extensive database of candidate questions, so we can’t predict the exact questions you’ll face. However, our tools can give you a good idea of what to expect.
First, our practice test questions cover all the same topics that the official written test covers. Second, we have two PDF “cheat sheets” (not for actual cheating, though!): “The Top 100 Most Common US DMV Questions” and “The 121 Most Common US Road Signs Questions.” These are the most likely questions to appear on your written test. Each question listed comes with the correct answer, which you can study and memorize.
Finally, we have two more Arizona Permit Practice Tests for you. Check them out too!
